Residential Assistant for the Housing Social Unit
The city of Västerås has removed the personal letter from the application process. We do this to achieve a better and fairer recruitment process. When you submit your application, you will be asked to answer a number of questions that will become an important part of our selection work.
In this position, you meet people exactly where they are and contribute to creating homes that work and everyday life that holds together. You will be an important part of an engaged team that together creates security, stability, and new opportunities for people who need it the most. Here you will have freedom, responsibility, and the chance to help shape a new role within the unit.
Your Responsibilities
We are now looking for a residential assistant for the Housing Social Unit within the Department of Social Services. Your workplace will be in the clients' homes, in individual accommodations, emergency housing, or municipal housing, where you make a difference both through what you do and how you do it. Your main tasks are practical: you are responsible for minor repairs, assembly, purchases, furnishing, and assistance during move-in and move-out. You will also perform supervision in the accommodations, including fire supervision. You plan and manage your work independently.
But your work is also about people. Our target group consists of adults with housing social issues, such as individuals with psychosocial problems, harmful use and dependency, domestic violence, or previously homeless individuals whom we support towards the goal of living as independently as possible. In your role, you will meet people who sometimes need someone to listen, see, or notice a change in their well-being, which you will communicate to social workers as needed. You are a present and responsive person in the client's daily life. You collaborate with housing coordinators, social workers, and other professionals within the Housing Social Unit and are an important part of the overall support for the individual. Some documentation may also be required.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for someone who enjoys practical work but also sees the person behind the door you enter. You are trained as a social pedagogue or have a similar post-secondary education and have experience in repairing, assembling, and installing things that make a home function. You can independently handle minor repairs and technology.
The most important thing is that you understand what it means to work in people's homes, especially when they are experiencing mental health issues, dependency, or social vulnerability. You feel comfortable meeting different personalities and situations. Previous experience working with the target group is an advantage.
As a person, you are stable and remain calm even in challenging situations. With your relationship-building skills, you easily make connections and build trust. Additionally, you are creative and solution-focused, and you are happy to contribute ideas that develop both working methods and collaboration.
A driver's license (B) is required as you need to travel to our various accommodations.
We Offer
With us, you will have a free and varied job with great personal responsibility. You will be the first in this role, which means you will help shape a completely new way of working with us!
You will be a practical resource in people's daily lives, but also a present person who can contribute with security and stability. We offer professional development in areas related to our target group, and since you will work closely with the entire unit, there are good opportunities to grow and learn in your work.
Here you will be part of something bigger! With warmth and respect, we show initiative in both big and small matters. We live our values in our interactions with each other and those we serve. Every day, all year round, we ensure that Västerås functions. Together with your approximately 11,500 colleagues around the city, you will have Sweden's most important job.
